Robert Parker (92)
The 2019 Branas Grand Poujeaux is a charming, expressive wine, exhibiting aromas of rich berry fruit, spices, dark chocolate and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and sensual palate. Layered and seamless, it’s framed by ripe, powdery tannins and succulent acids. This is one of the flashier, more concentrated wines produced in Moulis, but it carries its ambitious vinification well.
James Suckling (93)
This is a very solid Moulis with spice, walnut, nutmeg and currant character on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied and chewy. Shows depth of fruit and structure.
Vinous (92)
The 2019 Branas Grand Poujeaux has a lovely, pure and detailed bouquet with perfumed blackberry and raspberry fruit, crushed stone and cedar, a hint of graphite emerges with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, graphite infused black fruit leading the way with an unapologetically classic, slightly austere yet captivating finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
Jeb Dunnuck (91)
A serious Moulis, the 2019 Château Branas Grand Poujeaux sports a dense purple color to go with ripe, powerful notes of blackcurrants, chocolate, leafy herbs, and lead pencil shavings. Rich, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully balanced, it’s a hidden gem in the vintage that will have a decade of longevity.
